Police arrest 10 suspected animal thieves
The Police in Borno State on Friday said 10 suspected criminals who specialised in stealing domestic animals in Maiduguri had been arrested.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Damian Chukwu, who made this known in Maiduguri, told newsmen that the command also recovered 63 domestic animals from the suspects.
Chukwu said the suspects who have been responsible for the loss of sheep and goats in the city and terrorising residents, were apprehended on Sept. 3 on a tip-off.
He said the recovered animals comprised 61 sheep and two goats and were valued at N 5.7 million, adding that the suspects confessed to stealing the animals.He said the police also arrested a suspect over allegation of criminal trespass, and explained that the man was believed to be going into homes of people and stealing various items.
I earned millions from kidnapping –Suspect
A suspected kidnapper has said that he earned money running into several millions of naira while he engaged in the criminal act.
He confessed that he bought cars with his earnings and that he was proposing to establish a private business before he was caught.
Buhari, Saraki meet third time in Aso Rock
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday met for the third time within one week with the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
They met first last week Friday while the second meeting was on Wednesday after the President met with members of the South East Caucus in the Senate led by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and Eyinnaya Abaribe.
Alleged N2.1b debt: Skye Bank takes over Obat Oil’s depot
The Federal High Court in Lagos has directed Skye Bank Plc to take over Obat Oil and Petroleum Limited’s depot over an alleged N2.1billion debt.
Justice Jude Dagat issued an order directing the Inspector-General of Police, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, the Lagos Commissioner of Police as well as the court’s Deputy Sheriff to assist in the enforcement of the order.

Senators visit Fani-Kayode, others in EFCC custody
Some senators on Tuesday paid a
solidarity visit to three former ministers, Femi Fani-Kayode, Musiliu
Obanikoro and Bala Muhammed, and former presidential spokesperson,
Reuben Abati, who are in the custody of the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission in Abuja.
Our correspondent learnt that among the
visiting senators are four serving ones identified as Isah Hamma from
Bauchi Central, Ali Wakili from Bauchi South, Ali Ndume from Borno
South, and Philips Aduda from the Federal Capital Territory.
Man arrested for raping, impregnating 15-year-old stepdaughter
A 40-year-old man, Victor Emafolomi, has been detained by the police for allegedly raping his wife’s daughter, Keji.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the
suspect was apprehended on Sunday by the police from the Agbado division
after the mother of the victim reported the case.
Keji (pseudonym) lived with her mother
and Emafolomi on Olukososi Street, Jafa, Agbado, in the Ifo Local
Government Area of Ogun State.
Recession: Oyo seeks World Bank assistance
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has
appealed to the World Bank to assist the state as it struggles to meet
its financial obligations.
While hosting the World Bank Country
Director, Mr. Benmessaoud Rachid, and his team at the Governor Office in
Ibadan, the governor thanked the bank for its financial commitment to
the state, stressing the importance of the partnership between the state
and the bank for the development of Oyo State.
The World Bank was said to have
committed about N13bn to six projects in the state, including urban
flood management programme, Ibadan master plan, health and agriculture.

Senate Leader Mohammed Ali Ndume moved the motion for the consideration of the request. Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Bwacha seconded.

EFCC may seize judge’s N500m houses

told our correspondent that a house located at 18 Lai Ajayi Bembe
Street, Parkview Ikoyi, Lagos was traced to the judge while another
property on Atlantic Drive, UPDC Estate, Lekki, which has been marked by
the EFCC, was said to belong to the embattled judge.
Our correspondent, who visited the
property located at Ikoyi, observed that the property which is a
two-storey building stands close to the house of a former Minister of
State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, who is in the EFCC
custody.

We can’t hand over arrested judges to EFCC – NJC
The National Judicial Council has said
it is not part of its statutory responsibilities to hand over judges who
are accused of corruption to anti-graft agencies for investigation and
prosecution.
The NJC also clarified that it could not recover proceeds of corruption and had no power to dismiss erring judges.
