'Those who burnt INEC office in Bori are afraid of elections' - Governor Wike


Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says that those who burnt the Bori office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, are the same politicians who wrote to INEC seeking postponement of the rerun elections on the ground of security.

Addressing journalists after inspecting the burnt section of INEC Khana Local Government Office in Bori, Governor Wike said the arson should not serve as an excuse for the elections to the postponed.

The governor regretted that politicians who are afraid of the rerun elections would go to the extent of burning down public facility to convince INEC that the rerun elections should be shifted. He noted that no election materials have been deposited at the office, pointing out that the burnt section only serve as a hall for collation

Appeal Court affirms David Mark’s election

The Court of Appeal sitting in Makurdi, Benue state today affirmed the decision of the state election petition tribunal to uphold the February 20th 2015 election of former Senate President, David Mark for the Benue South Senatorial district. APC candidate in the election, Daniel Onjeh, had petitioned the state election tribunal over Mark's victory at the polls.

The election tribunal in its ruling on June 30th dismissed Onjeh's objection saying he failed to file in his objection within the 21-days from the election as enshrined in the constitution. A dissatisfied Onjeh headed to the Court of Appeal to ask for an overturn of the tribunal's decision.

In its ruling today, Justice Oyebisi Omoleye agreed with the lower tribunal in dismissing Onjeh's petition.

Buhari officially confirms Federal Government is in talks with Niger Delta militants


President  Buhari has finally confirmed that the Federal Government is in talks with Niger Delta Militants in order to end the constant attacks on the country's oil installations which is affecting Nigeria's oil production.
Speaking at a farewell audience with Mr. Michael Zinner, the outgoing Ambassador of Germany to Nigeria, at the State House, Abuja, on Thursday, the president said that his administration was talking to Niger Delta militants through oil companies and law-enforcement agencies.
Official Spokesperson to President Buhari, Shehu Garba, in a series of Tweets shared the details of the conversation.

Two men were arraigned today before Mrs AA Famobiwo of magistrate court 3, Surulere for assaulting an FRSC official. Nwandu Onyeka and Okechukwu Jackson were arraigned on three count charge of conspiracy, assault and obstruction. Both pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of 50k and 2 sureties each.

The case was adjourned to 18 July 2016 for mention. Both accused were remanded in prison custody as they couldn't meet the bail conditions.

A source told The News men  that she died on Wednesday morning but declined to give details.
She was 82 years.
Ajayi studied drama at the Institute of Drama, London.
She was part of the TV series Village Headmaster which aired in the 1980s.

$1.6bn fraud: Diezani’s ally, Omokore, ex-NNPC GMD, others arraigned

 
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja a businessman, Mr. Jide Omokore, who is also an ally of a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, on nine counts of alleged crude oil fraud involving $1.6bn.

Alison-Madueke, whom the prosecution stated was at large, was not listed as an accused person in the charges, but her name was mentioned in one of the counts as having perpetrated the alleged fraud alongside Omokore and the other listed co-accused persons.

Man cuts off, flushes wife’s lover’s penis

A former boxer who chopped off the penis of his wife’s lover with a pair of garden shears before flushing it down the toilet was jailed in Japan Tuesday.
Ikki Kotsugai, 25, carried out the “vicious” attack in August 2015 when he burst into the office of a lawyer who had an affair with his wife.
Kotsugai, an ex-boxer and law student, became enraged after mistakenly believing his wife had been forced to sleep with her boss at a legal firm, when in reality the affair was consensual, the judge said at Tokyo District Court, according to Jiji Press.
The Sankei Shimbun daily newspaper reported that Kotsugai’s wife had falsely told him that she was forced to have sex with the lawyer.
He was sentenced to four years and six months Tuesday by presiding judge Kazunori Karei.
“An irreparable injury has been sustained,” Karei told the court, according to Jiji, calling the crime “extremely dangerous and vicious”.
Kotsugai has since apologised to the victim, who also apologised for having the affair with his wife, the Sankei reported.

Avengers resume hostilities, blow up NNPC, Chevron’s oil facilities

EFCC arrests wanted Osun ex-deputy gov, Omisore


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, who was declared wanted about a month ago.
It was learnt that Omisore was arrested at his Abuja home located at 1 Kainji Crescent, Off Lake Chad Street, Maitama, by a team of EFCC operatives on Sunday morning.
“Upon a thorough search of his apartment, we recovered N1m and $21,000 in cash from him,” a source said.
