
Former secretary to the government of the federation Olu Falae has been released by his captors, Daily Trust learnt.
He was abducted from his farm in the outskirt of Akure, Ondo state capital on Tuesday by unidentified gunmen.
The
kidnappers reportedly contacted the family of the former minister of
finance demanding N100 million ransom to free him. They later reduced it
to N90 million.
The
septuagenarian arrived his home at about 4:25pm on Thursday accompanied
by Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase. The police boss
personally led the rescue operation Daily Trust correspondent reports.He said no ransom was paid to the kidnappers.
Earlier,
the Ondo state commissioner of information, Kayode Akinmade confirmed
his release to newsmen. He said the Inspector General of Police Solomon
Arase and the governor of the state Olusegun Mimiko were going to
receive him at the governor’s office in Akure.
On
Wednesday, President Muhammadu Buhari ordered Inspector General of
Police Solomon Arase to do all within his powers to secure the safe
rescue of the septuagenarian.
