Iara Oshiomhole donates N2m, clothes, books to IDPs

Wife of Edo State Governor, Mrs. Iara Oshiomhole, has donated the sum of N2 million, on behalf of the state government, for the upkeep of the Internally Displaced Persons at their camp in Uhogua near Benin City, Edo State.
The Governor’s wife who visited the camp, Friday, also presented items, including clothes, footwear, books, toiletries and others materials running into millions of naira to the IDPS.
She said the state would do everything possible to make life as comfortable as possible for persons in the camp.

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola threw his support behind midfielder Arturo Vidal on Friday after the Chile international was criticised by club legend Franz Beckenbauer.
“I don’t agree with Mr. Beckenbauer. I’m very satisfied with Arturo, he will be a very important player this season, said Guardiola, ahead of Saturday’s trip to Darmstadt in the Bundesliga.
Beckenbauer had bemoaned the “lack of mobility” displayed by Vidal following Wednesday’s 3-0 victory away to Olympiakos in the Champions League.

A Venezuelan military plane crashed on the border with Colombia during an operation to intercept an “illicit aircraft,” with the fate of the two pilots unknown, the government said Friday.
The two countries have been locked in a border conflict for a month, after Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro ordered the closure of part of the frontier, saying some of his military were attacked during an anti-smuggling operation by Colombian paramilitaries.

The Eastern Naval Command (ENC) of the Nigerian Navy on Friday said it had arrested 30 ships in the last nine months.
Rear Adm. Henry Babalola, out-gone Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) the ENC, disclosed this in Calabar during a handing over ceremony to his successor, Rear Adm. Atiku Abdulkadir.
In the last nine months, we have arrested a total of 30 ships which include tug boats, Cotonou boats, and we have as well arrested a good number of oil thieves,“he said.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho could face a five-match ban after a member of the public complained he had used sexist and abusive language against former team doctor Eva Carneiro, Britain’s press reported Friday.
The Football Association said in a statement that it had “received an enquiry relating to an alleged incident during the Premier League fixture between Swansea v Chelsea on 8 August” but that it would make no further comment.

Court summons CCB to defend Saraki’s trial

A MOVE by the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to prevent his trial by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for alleged false declaration of assets suffered a setback yesterday as the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, refused his exparte application.
The court, instead, ordered Saraki to put the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), which proffered the 13-count charge against him on notice to appear before it on September 21, 2015 to show cause why it should not be restrained from arraigning the embattled Senate president over the said charge.
The Guardian had exclusively reported that Saraki would yesterday, approach the Federal High Court seeking an interim injunction order to frustrate his trial at the tribunal.

The result of Kogi West senatorial district election was falsified by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to favour Senator Dino Melaye, the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal heard yesterday.
 Mr. Feinti Dada, who was the first witness called by Senator Smart Adeyemi, the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the election, said the poll was fraught with irregularities in 21 units of five wards in Lokoja Local Government Area of the state.
