Mourinho, Guardiola to face off in League Cup
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho
was handed a speedy reunion with Manchester City counterpart Pep
Guardiola in Wednesday’s English League Cup fourth-round draw.
Guardiola’s City won 2-1 when he
reprised his rivalry with Mourinho earlier this month and they will meet
again at Old Trafford in late October when a place in the League Cup
quarter-finals will be at stake.
“I think it’s good for us,” United
midfielder Ander Herrera, a scorer in their 3-1 win at third-tier
Northampton Town, told MUTV.

Senate to investigate MTN over $12bn repatriation allegation
The Senate on Thursday agreed to
investigate an allegation that telecommunication giant, MTN Nigeria,
repatriated $12 billion out of Nigeria over a 10-year period.
The resolution followed a motion moved by Sen. Dino Melaye (APC-Kogi) who relied on a point of order to make the allegations.

was arraigned over an alleged N167m fraud.

Chibok girls: Buhari invites UN to negotiate with Boko Haram
President Muhammadu Buhari has called on the United Nations to help negotiate the release of the Chibok schoolgirls, who were abducted by Boko Haram in 2014.
The President made the call during a meeting with the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, on the sidelines of the 71st UN General Assembly in New York, according to a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina.

Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives
yesterday arrested two persons for alleged fraud and robbery. Emmanuel
Anyanwu, 39, and Kennedy Ujagbor, 42, were arrested at Cele Bus Stop on

Ex-Ekiti commissioner links pupils’ success in NECO to Fayemi
Former Ekiti State Commissioner for
Education, Science and Technology Kehinde Ojo has attributed the 96 per
cent success recorded by the state’s candidates in the National
Examinations Council (NECO) examination to reforms by ex-Governor Kayode
Fayemi.
Ojo, ex-headteacher of Christ’s School,
Ado Ekiti, and former tutor-general, said it was wrong for the
commissioner, Jide Egunjobi, to attribute the latest feat to the Ayo
Fayose administration’s cancellation of free and compulsory education
policy.
Cattle on FCT roads?
Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) has to redouble its efforts at apprehending herders who still graze their cattle on roads in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in contravention of the ban on such by the FCT minister, Muhammed Bello. Bello had on September 3 directed herdsmen to stop grazing their cattle on streets in the federal capital, but reports say the directive is being obeyed more in the breach. Herdsmen still graze their cattle along the roads in the FCT, including the Central Business District, sometimes causing traffic holdup. The minister who described the practice as bizarre tasked the AEPB and the FCT Task Force Team on Environment to stop it forthwith.
Ekiti cuts relationship with bank over Fayose’s frozen accounts
EKITI State Governor Ayo Fayose has ordered the state to stop transacting business with Zenith Bank.
The action is not unconnected with the
face-off between him and Zenith on the freezing of his personal accounts
domicilled in thebank by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC).
According to a circular from the Office
of the Accountant General on Tuesday, all Ministries, Departments and
Agencies (MDAs) must comply with the order within 48 hours.
N7bn contract scam rocks Benue, two cashiers arrested
The Benue State Universal Basic
Education Board, under the chairmanship of Dr. Philip Tachin, has
allegedly awarded contracts worth N7bn without due process.
Investigation by our correspondent
revealed that the board chairman, in conjunction with key officials of
the board, had awarded the multi-million naira contracts to cronies and
friends without going through tenders and due process.
School- leaver rapes four-year-old girl in her brother’s presence
The Lagos State Police Command has
arrested a 20-year-old suspect, Bassey Johnson, for allegedly raping a
four-year-old girl in the Idimu area of the state.
News men learnt that the
school-leaver, who is also learning a trade, allegedly raped the girl,
Fatima (pseudonym), when she and her elder brother went to watch a
television in the suspect’s apartment.
The victim’s family and the suspect were said to be neighbours in the area.
EFCC freezes Patience Jonathan’s personal $5m account
The Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission has frozen Patience Jonathan’s personal account, titled
‘Patience Ibifaka Jonathan’, which is domiciled in Skye Bank Plc.
Impeccable sources within the agency
told our correspondent on Wednesday that the move had become necessary
due to the prima facie case established against the former President
Goodluck Jonathan’s wife.
As part of investigations into alleged
diversion against a former Special Adviser to ex-President Jonathan on
Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa, the anti-graft agency had frozen
four companies’ accounts in Skye Bank with a balance of $15,591,700.
