2016 Hajj: 22 Nigerian pilgrims die in Saudi Arabia

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) says 22 Nigerians have died during this year’s pilgrimage.
Dr Ibrahim Kana, Head, National Medical Team, disclosed this at a meeting between NAHCON delegation and members of the Bangladesh Hajj Office in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
He said the number represented 0.20 percent of the more than 62,000 pilgrims who performed the pilgrimage.

The Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulkadir, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto on Friday that the command had adopted some proactive security measures that would enable residents to observe the festivities in a peaceful atmosphere.

The Imo State House of Assembly has passed a motion calling for the sack of the state Commissioner for Community Government Council, Mr. Innocent Eke, over alleged sabotage.
In a motion moved by Mr Arthur Egwim (APC, Ideato North) in Owerri on Friday, the commissioner was accused of sabotaging efforts of the House in resolving crises emanating from autonomous communities.
Egwim, who is the Chairman, Committee on Community Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, said the commissioner’s activities had brought disrepute to smooth running of government.

Herbalist rapes 15 year-old-girl in Anambra

A herbalist, Emeka Obu, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for allegedly raping a 15-year old girl (name withheld) in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Nkiruka Nwode, confirmed the incident.
She said the Enugwu-Ukwu Police Division was investigating the matter, adding that the culprit would be taken to court any time soon.

Naira in free fall, plunges to 480/dollar


The naira plunged further against the United States dollar to a new record low of 480 on Thursday, down from 472 it recorded on Wednesday.
The currency had continued its two-week free fall on Monday, closing at 445 to the dollar after tumbling to 439 on Friday.
